Anna is a renowned German organist on the verge of winning a major music award. She follows her affluent Latvian husband, Andris, to his rural estate. They met when Andris became the financial sponsor of several of Anna’s concerts, and their marriage appears to be the epitome of a middle-class idyll: a perfect union of art and money. However, when Andris becomes embroiled in a corruption scandal, the cultural differences and tensions that have been buried beneath the glamorous surface slowly begin to take their toll. Next is Anna's big birthday party dinner, with many different guests invited. This finely tuned, tightly scripted domestic drama unfolds in lyrical contrasts of past and present.
