Somewhere in rural Hungary, two strange men are arrested for kidnapping an old hermit living alone in the woods. The man they attacked happens to be a Serbian war criminal who was hiding out for years in Hungary, although the kidnappers claim they had no idea who he was. They insist that a demon named Jimmy Jaguar, or Jagu, possessed their souls and told them to do it. Hungarian auteur Bence Fliegauf’s latest movie is a near no-budget production, a possession story drawing on folk-horror elements. Structured as a faux-documentary, the film comprises a string of encounters with individuals who claim to have been possessed by the demon who wanders from soul to soul, awakening something dark in everyone and turning his hosts into instruments of vengeance. Throughout the film, Fliegauf toys with horror film elements without any explicit violence. The film premiered in the Crystal Globe Competition of the 59th Karlovy Vary IFF this summer.
