Set against the chaos of post-communist Albania and the 1997 civil unrest, the film follows Mira, a single mother from Elbasan, and her teenage son, Toni, as they navigate life amid the fallout of failed pyramid schemes. Pragmatic and hopeful, Mira searches for stability within the narrow confines of her choices, briefly connecting with Berti, a wealthy opportunist. Toni, straddling the line between childhood and adulthood, observes the world around him with quiet detachment—until anarchy begins to unravel their community… Drawing on Papas’s own memories, Luna Park offers a fresh take on the coming-of-age genre, weaving intimate family moments with a vivid portrait of a society in turmoil. With its atmospheric production design and striking cinematography, the film delivers an unsentimental, clear-eyed vision of a country on the brink, where even survival becomes an act of resistance.
