The uniqueness of this poetic documentary lies, above all, in the originality of the questions it raises. Loosely inspired by a chapter from Aleš Palán and Jan Šibík’s book on Šumava loners (other parts of which were presented in the 2021 CinEast photo exhibition), it provocatively asks whether it is possible to spend an entire lifetime in a single place. František and Ondřej Klišík, twins who seem to echo a bygone era, have stubbornly chosen to do exactly that. Are they deluded eccentrics or charismatic fabulists in the spirit of Bohumil Hrabal? They appear never to have truly grown up, and through the lens of civilisation their world may seem absurd. Yet with their authentic bucolic charm, they invite us to rediscover a source of inspiration — a source all the more vital for those worn down by conformity and the order of civilised life.

Winner of the main prize at this year’s Karlovy Vary IFF, this entertaining and inspiring documentary follows two peculiar characters and their unusual rural lifestyle, and boasts inventive visuals, humorous situations, distinctive poetry, earthy language and comical twin dynamics.
