Twenty-nine-year-old Ilona and her boyfriend have just moved into a new apartment in a block of flats. Soon afterwards, when the building’s renovation begins, she befriends Oleg, one of the Ukrainian construction workers, and her idyllic notions of a fulfilling life as she approaches thirty start to crumble. This is a masterful, contemporary portrayal of the lives of Lithuanian millennials, who on the one hand are exposed to endless possibilities and the constant pressure to perform, while on the other still carry the traumas of previous generations brought up in the Soviet Union, the spectre of which still looms large, particularly given current political events.
