Bulgarian queer artist and songwriter Ivo Dimchev has built his career on turning personal and social hardship into provocative performances that combine music, theatre, dance and visual art. During the Covid lockdown, despite being HIV-positive, he responded by bringing his work directly to the people and performing more than 400 free concerts in their homes. But in conservative Bulgaria, his unapologetic approach to sexuality, identity and power increasingly leaves him feeling constrained.

Intimate encounters and electrifying performances bring the worlds of Ivo’s stage and everyday life into focus, offering a portrait that looks beyond his provocative public persona. The film captures the contradictions beneath the flamboyance, the humour alongside vulnerability, and the defiance alongside uncertainty. His performances become a window into a life shaped by the same questions of freedom, identity and belonging that drive his art.

This entertaining portrait of an unconventional artist received the Special Jury Prize for Documentary at the 2025 Sarajevo FF, following its premiere at DOK.fest München.
