OHO is considered one of the most interesting, complex and significant examples of avant-garde art and counterculture in the former Yugoslavia in the 1960s, which has inspired and continues to inspire many artists, including Marina Abramović. The documentary, made almost entirely from rare archival material, aims to capture the phenomenon of the OHO movement and the spirit of a time marked by socialism, hippie and rock culture, the Vietnam War, the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia, student protests around the world, and the Cold War. OHO was not just an art collective but a unique cultural phenomenon that explored the visible and the immaterial through art, philosophy, sociology, science and a coexistence with the earth and nature. After achieving major success and becoming one of the first Eastern European groups to exhibit at New York‘s MoMA, the group disbanded in 1971. The film revisits the key episodes of this avant-garde artistic and cultural phenomenon while also exploring what OHO’s ideas offer us today.
