When Russia launches its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna sends her children to safety and boards a train to rejoin the government in Kyiv. With Ukraine fighting for survival, she faces another immense challenge of advancing the country’s bid for EU and NATO membership. Swedish filmmaker Viktor Nordenskiöld follows Stefanishyna from close range, gaining rare access to the corridors of power as she navigates diplomacy, corruption, judicial reform and political resistance within Europe. And beyond the political manoeuvring, the film offers an intimate portrait of a woman balancing personal sacrifice with the demands of leadership.

Sharp, immediate and deeply human, The Eukrainian provides a fascinating insider’s view of wartime diplomacy while raising urgent questions about democracy, European values and the future of Ukraine.
