Give as a gift
Four siblings are on the brink of adulthood, trying to find their place in the world without losing what binds them together. The youngest, Benek, cannot come to terms with his growing estrangement from his older brother Franek, who until recently was his best friend. When Benek begins to be haunted by the mysterious Dusiołek, suffering from insomnia and panic attacks, the line between reality and fear becomes increasingly blurred. Meanwhile, Franek runs away from his family, becomes entangled in a toxic relationship and struggles with drug abuse, while his twin sister Nastka desperately seeks closeness and a sense of security. The eldest, Jana, tries to help her younger siblings by developing an art project as a way of processing the family’s emotions – including her own.
A psychological drama about growing up, mental health struggles, addiction, longing for closeness and the need to be seen. Rather than offering simple answers, the film presents raw emotions and characters grappling with experiences familiar to many young people. The film intertwines realism and metaphor, with the ‘ghosts’ becoming a reflection of fears and emotions that are difficult to put into words. A remarkable, original and acclaimed feature debut.
The film won, among others, the Best Director award at the Polish FF in Gdynia, as well as the Polish Film Awards for Discovery of the Year and Best Supporting Actress.
