On the sun-drenched Bulgarian coast, where golden sand welcomes the Black Sea, Lucia arrives for a summer holiday with her husband and young son. But beneath the idyllic surface, something is beginning to fracture. Devoted to her child yet increasingly withdrawn from her possessive husband and the friends with whom they share their holiday, Lucia seems unable, or unwilling, to play the role expected of her. Everything shifts with the arrival of Vladimir, a mysterious man from Lucia’s past whose presence unsettles the fragile balance within the group. When a child from the village disappears without explanation, the holiday’s carefree atmosphere begins to unravel, and long-buried secrets threaten to surface. Against a landscape where beauty and unease coexist, Lucia is forced to confront the widening distance between the life she has built and the one she might still desire. Poised between Anna Karenina and Madame Bovary, A Safe Place is a sensual and emotionally charged portrait of a woman at a crossroads, caught between motherhood, marriage and the possibility of another life. With tension simmering beneath every encounter and much left unsaid, the film explores desire, freedom and the courage it takes to reclaim a self who has been gradually pushed into silence.
