In New York City in the late ‘90s, Joanna (Qualley) is a young aspiring writer who lands a day job at J.D. Salinger’s literary agency. While her eccentric, old-fashioned boss Margaret (Weaver) assigns her to answer Salinger’s voluminous fan mail, Joanna struggles to find her own voice. Based on Joanna Rakoff’s coming-of-age memoir of the same name, My Salinger Year is transformed for the big-screen by Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood) and Sigourney Weaver (Avatar, Alien, Ghostbusters). Director Philippe Falardeau is no stranger to Cinefest Sudbury, having brought films Monsieur Lazhar (2011), C'est pas moi, je le jure (2008) and Congorama (2006) to previous editions of the Festival.

New York, fin des années 1990. Joanna est une jeune écrivaine en herbe. Nouvelle employée d’une agence littéraire dirigée par l’excentrique et vieillote Margaret, elle a comme tâche, entre autres, de répondre aux très nombreuses lettres des admirateurs d’un des principaux clients de l’agence, le célèbre J.D. Salinger, auteur de Catcher in the Rye. Mais ce que souhaite Joanna avant tout, c’est trouver sa propre voix. My Salinger Year est une adaptation fidèle et inventive du récit autobiographique de Joanna Smith Rakoff. Il s’agit du dixième long métrage (le troisième en anglais) de Philippe Falardeau (Monsieur Lazhar, The Good Lie, Congorama, La moitié gauche du frigo).
