A group of high schoolers prepare for prom and navigate the intriguing world of homeschooling in this heartwarming documentary.

Director Statement

The idea for this film began like most, with a conversation. I was chatting with a friend of mine who was homeschooled for the entire duration of his educational career. It occurred to me, out of the blue, that being a homeschooler meant he would have missed a plethora of quintessential coming of age events; more specifically, Prom. To this day, my prom was one of my favorite memories I've ever had. The more I thought about this unique lifestyle, the more fascinated I was with the idea of breaking societal norms in the educational space and doing things differently. As I began to do some more research into homeschooling as a whole, I realized that all of my preconceived notions of what kind of people homeschool were completely misguided. Throughout the filming of this project, we found families that chose homeschooling for just about every reason under the sun. It became our mission to not only learn more about this convoluted and misconceived lifestyle, but also to bring Prom into the lives of those who wouldn't otherwise get to experience it. Watching these kids bloom throughout the journey of this film ultimately turned out to be just life changing for me as a filmmaker as it was for them.
