Director Biography - Skye Bailey

Skye Bailey is a professional Moving-Image Artist whose practice centers on a minimalist visual language where graphic elements serve as protagonists in silent, one-minute films. Bypassing text, dialogue, and human representation, their work relies on precise vector choreography and structural timing developed primarily in Apple Keynote alongside the Adobe Creative Suite. After earning the 2023 "Rookie of the Year" award in Motion Graphics from The Rookies for early work featuring atmospheric sound, followed by the 2024 Big Idea Grant, their practice evolved in 2026 into a dedicated focus on pure silence for final exhibition works. Their moving-image works have been recognized across international festival circuits, including Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, the Los Angeles Animation Festival, the New York Animation Film Awards, and Midnight Madness Toronto.

Director Statement

Born from the constraints of the pandemic, "A Peace of God" represents the moment I discovered my creative voice. When the footage for my intended debut documentary became impossible to capture, I honored a personal vow to meet a 2021 festival deadline by documenting my own story through a different lens. This film served as my first exploration into the rhythmic choreography of shapes and symbols. I found that I actually enjoyed the challenge of these technical constraints, and the result sparked a lifelong love for the digital simplicity and moving image art I produce today. It is a testament to resilience and the beginning of my journey into visual choreography.

"A Peace of God" is a minimalist moving image work that translates the psychological journey from pandemic-induced chaos to internal stillness. This non-verbal narrative utilizes a rhythmic choreography of geometric shapes and symbols. The visual elements are precisely synced to a curated soundscape that transitions from rhythmic tension and ambient textures into melodic strings. Created entirely on an iPhone, the film eventually moves beyond digital abstraction to incorporate nature photography taken during the director's solitary walks. These are the physical spaces where the real peace of God was found. It is an experimental study of visual storytelling that bridges the gap between digital simplicity and the restorative power of the natural world.
