In 1994, the New Arts Alliance, a Columbia, Md. art organization, initiated a search for a venue to showcase local artists. The management of the American City Building, corporate home of The Rouse Company, offered to design a small gallery space in the building’s lobby to support the fine arts in Columbia. Jim Rouse, then CEO of the Rouse Company, and his wife Patty were supporters of the arts and loved the idea of an art venue in Downtown Columbia. A cooperative gallery called Artists’ Gallery was formally established on June 1,1995 and Artists’ Gallery enjoyed a 22-year relationship with the Columbia community.

In November of 2016, the gallery relocated to Main Street in Ellicott City, which has become an arts destination for local residents and visiting tourists. Artists’ Gallery is now located in The Taylor’s Collective: Antiques, Arts, Artisans at 8197 Main Street.
