A you tube healthy cooking show gets real during quarantine.

Director Biography - Julia Christgau

Julia is a driven, thoughtful and compassionate writer, director and filmmaker. With her roots in acting and theatre in NYC, her career path has taken on many forms. Throughout her experience on set, in education, script consultation, as well as film and podcast production, Julia has landed in creative leadership roles many times, to find she is very much at home there. Although she's only been directing since her move to the southeast in 2017, her acting and directing work has been recognized at festivals both regionally and internationally. She is committed to equitable on set environments that lend themselves to telling stories from voices that need to be heard.

Director Statement

This project came to me when I was part of a writers room for a sketch comedy show with The Magnetic Theatre in Asheville, NC. In addition to writing, I was asked to produce the video segments for the show and thus, Garrett's Kitchen (aka Sink Noodles) was born. I decided to follow through with it because I found the dark humor of this material so profoundly cathartic while pondering the experience of quarantine and how we were. The journey we've been on, and are still on, throughout this globally traumatic experience. Working on this project actually helped ground my practice and path as a director in the comedy space. The joy it brings its audience, and the ability of satire to render us privately reflective is something no other genre can accomplish in quite the same way.

Joe, myself and the perfectly awesome Zachary Gladwin made this project happen in two days, and had a super fun time doing it. This was my second time working with the hysterical Joe Carroll and my hope is to continue this partnership to make more funny pieces together in the future. I find his ability to make even the most somber of material funny is a true gift to the world.
