Director Biography - Roman Fernandez

Roman Fernandez’s expertise is rooted in his 20-year career in advertising and marketing, working with such varied national clients as Sandals Resorts and Air Jamaica to Konami of America and CyberGate / ValueWeb. In the year 2000, Roman opened his own advertising boutique, Leftfield Advertising, earning his agency dozens of advertising awards.

Roman's passion for music stems from his childhood years as a musician in various groups in South Florida while later combining his love of music and his expertise in advertising / marketing. In 1995, Roman Fernandez began working alongside Bill Aucoin, most recognized for discovering, developing and managing such artists as KISS, Billy Idol and Billy Squier, forging the first music merchandising empire. Roman served as consultant and artist co-manager for Aucoin Globe Entertainment developing acts and handling national and international tours.

In addition to talent management, booking and marketing, Roman expanded his advertising agency in 2004 by developing Leftfield Promotion, a college radio promotion agency, as a means of promoting an artist co-managed by himself and Aucoin. Upon reaching charting position in various markets for their own artist, Leftfield Promotion opened its doors to outside acts who capitalized from similar success.

Following the passing of Bill Aucoin in 2010, Roman continued working in advertising and management with a select few musical artists. Although, having produced some video work in marketing and music in the past, it was around this time that he began actively seeking out, developing, directing and at times editing more video projects, mostly in music-related areas.

With June 28th of 2020 on the horizon, the 10th anniversary of Aucoin’s passing was fast approaching. The traditional annual celebration was deemed impractical due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so Roman turned to Bill's peers in music, artists, family and friends to record a series of short monologues in honor of Bill. However, the response was so overwhelming, that what started out as a make-shift commemorative video postcard to be shared amongst family, friends and fans became a feature-length docu-biographic-tribute to a music industry visionary.

Roman continues his work in marketing and branding, and still likes to maintain one foot in the realm of music artist development. But if his latest project is a sign of things to come, directing and producing more film and video projects might just strike the right chord in the second half of his career.
