Director Biography - Jakov Sedlar

Jakov Sedlar (Split, November 6th 1952) is a Croatian director and producer. He graduated in Zagreb from Faculty of Philosophy in 1977 and then from Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1981. From 1992 to 1996, he was appointed as the drama director in Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and in the four following years he was the first Croatian cultural attaché in the USA, where he organized numerous activities that have promoted Croatian culture. He has directed many awarded theater plays, videos, live-action films, docudramas and documentaries, and has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to the promotion of culture. In his film career, he has produced and directed more than 80 films that have been screened at numerous festivals and TV stations all over the world. Some of his notable live-action titles are In the Middle of My Days, Madonna, Agony, Memory of Georgia and Four by Four. He often collaborates with his son Dominik on both live-action films such as Mercy of the Sea and recently The Match, as well as docudramas Jerusalem Syndrome and Café Auschwitz. The number of documentaries he has directed is very long, mostly dealing with topics of historical importance. Only a few titles are: Searching for Orson, Tito Unmasked, Yulia, Anne Frank- Then and Now. Ten of his films are housed in the archives of the Yad Vashem Museum in Jerusalem, the world’s most famous Holocaust museum, and three in the Diaspora Museum in Tel Aviv.
