Gene attends a slumber party with his four drama club friends, a final goodbye before each departs for college in 1994. This is the night he has selected to finally come out of the closet. In this moment of cross roads, the group slowly opens up to one another over antics, theatrics, and pizza. Gene’s relationship with the pizza delivery boy and his gay friends opens the party group to the possibility that Gene could be gay, too. Past interpersonal conflicts and individual secrets are revealed. This heartwarming film will entertain and engage you as the interactions between the party guests evolve.
Incredibly true to life, non judgemental, and utterly relatable, Dramarama is a resonant testament to the challenge of coming out in religious community and to the challenge young gay people face in trying, and sometimes failing, to be their whole selves - onstage and off.
