Synopsis:
1991, the start of the Jewish immigration wave from the USSR to Israel. 12-year old Misha films his family's journey. The traumatic immigration experience turns absurd when their old aunt dies on the plane just before they land. Now, the family must to go through various levels of bureaucracy with an immigrating corpse.
DJFF Film Reviews:
“Very funny and ironic! Liked the cinema verite.”
~ Mark Boscoe: Chair, DJFF Film Selection Committee
“Love the dry humor of this comedy-of-errors and the specific touches (like the amateur home video aesthetics) that evoke a distinct period in time and a distinctly impatient, prepubescent subject behind the camera. Highlights the bureaucratic tediousness of the immigration process and in doing so tempers the idealism that is expectation before reality. The dramatic irony of our subtitles shows us Hebrew asides that the Russian characters are not privy to. This is an older short, but truly a gem.”
~ Amy Weiner Weiss: Member, DJFF Film Selection Committee & Director of Festivals, JCC Mizel Arts and Culture Center
