Synopsis:

A proud yet scarred leader, haunted by the Holocaust and decades of war, former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin struggled to balance history with heroism to make peace with his greatest enemy and cement a legacy long misunderstood.

DJFF Film Reviews:

“An exceptional doc about an important and sometimes underappreciated Israeli Prime Minister - who won the Nobel Peace Prize & negotiated peace with Egypt. Extremely well made, edited, scripted and put together. Terrific interviews with huge figures important to the story. 9/10 for content, 10/10 for Denver Connections.”

~ Steve Wilson: Member, DJFF Film Selection Committee & Former Executive Artistic Director, JCC Mizel Arts and Culture Center

“Phenomenal biographical documentary about one of Israel’s under-celebrated leaders and the complexities and tragedies that marred his legacy. Loved the fast pace and use of split-screen in editing, the black and white animated sequences, and appreciated the scope of interview subjects (from the high-level -- political officials, biographers, scholars -- to the pedestrian -- everyday Israelis). Does a good job of giving context behind and explaining issues like settlement expansion, which we hear of today as a very divisive and colonialist issue, while giving the essence of Begin, which seems to actually be one of coexistence and peace.”

~ Amy Weiner Weiss: Member, DJFF Film Selection Committee & Director of Festivals, JCC Mizel Arts and Culture Center
