"Modo is proud to sponsor “The Story of Plastic” and we would like to thank our long-term partners at DOXA for raising awareness on this issue and continuing to offer a thought provoking program in a new festival format."

Who hasn’t felt despair upon seeing images of plastic islands in the middle of oceans? Haven’t we all said, “Why don’t they recycle, instead of throwing it out?”. The Story of Plastics up-ends this simplistic thought, walking the viewer back through the plastics supply chain, starting from the piles of waste in the world’s poorest countries, trudging past Western manufacturing plants and fracking sites in rural America, and finishing in the head offices of multinational petrochemical corporations. Interviews with activists in India, the Philippines, China, Indonesia, and the USA reframe the conversation, arguing for a comprehensive amendment to how plastics are made, rather than how they’re disposed of. -PC
