In The Silence That Remains, Spanish visual artist Amparo Garrido immerses viewers within the joyous world of birding, through the perceptive ears of blind ornithologist José Carlos Sires. What a world it is to discover: raucous, colourful, and occasionally bizarre! Garrido’s film nears sensory overload; as Sires’ ears pick out the distinct trills of cranes, chickadees, and capuchins, Garrido’s camera seeks out their breathtaking environs of misty fields, marshy estuaries, and aged pine forests. Along for this journey are avid birders, Sires’ photographer friend, and researchers documenting avian health.

This ode to the natural world is a siren call to cast off your ear buds, look up, listen, and rejoice in the spellbinding world of birds. -MB
