Set in north-eastern Italy, Jewish surgeon Simone Segre comes upon a car accident victim and, seeing a swastika tattoo on his chest, leaves the man to his fate. Driven by remorse, he tries to get close to the deceased’s family and hires the daughter as his housekeeper. But another sibling, Marcello, soon becomes an antagonist, as he is a neo-Nazi like his father. Alessandro Gassman is superb as a man compelled to do good in a world torn by hate.
