Berlin, 1943. Martha Liebermann, widow of the world-famous painter Max Liebermann, cannot imagine leaving Germany at the age of 85. Her friends encourage her to illegally sell his valuable paintings to finance her escape with a resistance group, while Gestapo commissioner Teubner works to set a trap for her. But her non-Jewish housekeeper, Luise, surprises everyone and opposes the Nazis.
