The documentary Upheaval will be available for streaming for five days (October 20 - 24).

Talks: Sunday, October 23, 7:00 PM PDT with Fred Rosenbaum and Thursday, October 27, 7:30 PM PDT with Avi Shilon.

In this revealing documentary featuring interviews with Israeli and American leaders and archival footage, the late Prime Minister Menachem Begin is seen as a proud yet scarred leader haunted by the Holocaust and decades of war who struggles to balance history and heroism. He won (along with Anwar Sadat and President Jimmy Carter) the Nobel Peace Prize and was behind the operations to bring Ethiopian Jews to Israel beginning in the late 1970s. He gave the go-ahead to bomb Saddam Hussein’s Osirak nuclear reactor in 1981 and also fought David Ben-Gurion over Israel’s getting reparations from West Germany. Throughout his career, he remained a controversial leader whose unwavering commitment to the Jewish people would result in untoward consequences. Upheaval portrays the life and essence of this tough, complex, and proud man.

As Menachem Begin’s career spanned several decades, we have invited two speakers to cover the central events of his life:

- The Early Days through the mid-1970s with historian Fred Rosenbaum on Sunday, October 23, 7:00 PM PDT

- His Life as Prime Minister with journalist Avi Shilon, author of a biography on Begin, on Thursday, October 27, 7:30 PM PDT
