Hella Trees

Available On Demand, throughout the Festival

English, with English subtitles.

Available as part of our Experimental Shorts package.

This experimental mockumentary by Ayo Akingbade takes a step away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives to look inward and invites you to experience our environment as it stands, spotlighting trees within an urban metropolis.

"Okay, let’s talk about trees. Why are you so obsessed with them?" asks Akingbade, the filmmaker, of young artist Rafiki, whose artistic practice focuses on trees: their individuality and presence.

A humorous and refreshing reminder to appreciate the small things, come join Rafiki and see these trees for yourself.

"Through the generous and generative filmmaking of Akingbade, the viewer maneuvers the space between Black consciousness and artistic freedom that is complementary rather than mutually exclusive. We can indeed, sit together to talk about culture, aesthetics, value and modernity without our respective identities being thrown into conflict" | Rianna Jade Parker, Lux

"... a laconic conversation about identity and wanting to confound stereotypes, inviting people to look closer and go beyond the obvious" | Annie Carpenter
