The Last Ice: What's Next?

Originally screened as part of EFFA Presents: Summer of Change (21 Jan - 4 Feb 2021)

"As the sea ice between Canada and Greenland melts, the outside world sees unprecedented opportunity. Oil and gas deposits, faster shipping routes, tourism and fishing all provide financial incentive to exploit the newly opened waters. But for more than 100,000 Inuit who live in the Arctic, on and around the frozen ocean, an entire way of life is at stake. Development here threatens to upset the balance between their communities, land and wildlife, leaving the future of this region and their culture increasingly uncertain..."

Join Director Scott Resler, Inuit youth advocate Maatalii Okalik, climate and earth sciences academic Shawn Marshall and SEED Mob legend Tishiko King for an exclusive discussion on the past, present and future circumstances of Inuit communities and the sea ice they live on.

This powerful discussion of First Nations Rights and the fight to save Inuit communities and their homes is joyous, yet confronting and truly inspirational. Not to be missed!

EFFA, Bank Australia and the High Commission of Canada present this exclusivepanel discussion with Director Scott Resler, Inuit youth activist Maatalii Okalik and climate and earth sciences academic Shawn Marshall.
