Sarah Blaßkiewitz’s engaging film addresses the current and always thorny topic of racism through its winning combination of incredible acting and clever humor. Afro-German Ivie, whom her friends call ‘Schoko (means ‘Chocolate’), lives in Leipzig. She works at a solarium run by her ex-boyfriend while she looks for steady employment as a teacher. One day, her half-sister from Berlin shows up at her door. She tells Schoko of the death of their father and his upcoming funeral in Senegal. Neither sister knew him, nor did they know each other until now, and thus they find it difficult to imagine getting to know his side of their family. As the sisters from two very different cities grow closer, Ivie starts to question not only her nickname, but also her culture and her self-image. And so an amazing journey begins.

Le film engageant de Sarah Blasskiewitz traite du sujet actuel et toujours épineux du racisme, au moyen de sa combinaison gagnante d’une performance incroyable des actrices et d’un humour intelligent. Ivie, une afro-allemande que ses amis surnomment « Schoko » (pour chocolat), vit à Leipzig. Elle travaille dans un salon de bronzage géré par son ancien copain pendant qu’elle cherche un emploi stable en tant qu’enseignante. Un jour, sa demi-sœur de Berlin se présente à sa porte. Elle annonce à Schoko la mort de leur père et ses funérailles prévues au Sénégal. Ni l’une ni l’autre des sœurs de l’a connu — elles ne se connaissaient même pas l’une l’autre jusqu’à ce moment. Elles trouvent donc difficile d’imaginer se rapprocher de son côté de leur famille. Alors que les sœurs de deux villes très différentes se rapprochent, Ivie commence à questionner son surnom ainsi que sa culture et son image d’elle-même. C’est alors qu’une merveilleuse aventure commence.
