In this timely film from Afghanistan-born director Navid Mahmoudi, two young Afghan refugees named Rona and Hamed meet and fall in love on their way to Tehran, a stopping point on what they hope will be a journey to Europe. While Rona waits in a safe house for women, Hamed tries to evade the human traffickers who were stiffed on their fee by his Tehran host, and he contemplates violating his Muslim faith by declaring himself a Christian to make emigrating to Europe easier. Meanwhile, Rona’s family is on the hunt for her for disgracing their honor. This harrowing drama won the Kim Ji Seok Award at the 2020 Busan International Film Festival.
