There are many weasels in director Campanella’s devilishly witty tale, both actual and

metaphorical. In fact, metaphors are plentiful in this story of dark secrets and brutal honesty colliding with modern ambition. In a grand dilapidated country mansion, aged movie diva Mara

(Graciela Borges) spends her days mournfully re-watching her past cinematic triumphs, while

her housemates—controlling director Norberto (Oscar Martínez), caustic screenwriter Martín

(Marcos Mundstock), and invalid husband and co-star Pedro (Luis Brandoni)—banter

dissolutely in dry cinematic terms, discussing the cold reality in front of them. When bright young

couple Bárbara and Francisco (Clara Lago and Nicolás Francella) stumble onto the property,

the old-timers see both hope and trouble. Because everyone is hiding something and now

longstanding grudges and slights must be avenged or settled. As battle lines are drawn and the

plot twists and twists again, the seniors become surprisingly resilient as they decide whether the

roles they chose to play on screen will define their lives.—Dave Nuttycombe
