Havel is a historical drama loosely based on the dissident years of Vaclav Havel. The film follows his transformation from carefree playwright and playboy to banned and jailed human rights activist to eventual President of Czechoslovakia. Viktor Dvorák (an uncanny resemblance of Havel) turns in a strong performance in the title role and award-winning director Slávek Horák delivers an effective period piece that allows us to follow Havel’s phoenix-like rise from writer to political hero. Watch through the end credits to see real life images that are priceless. (Adult content: sexual situations)
