Mari gets more than she bargained for when she decides to spend her night hiding in the bathroom. “Bathroom Break” is a relatable, comedic take on confronting social anxiety, and is directed by Simone LeClaire. Simone a white Minnesotan woman filmmaker who grew up on Leech Lake Indian Reservation and describes her personal work as an interest in “self-interrogation, how film might work to transform the narratives of our white supremacist patriarchy, and how to keep creative processes healthy, truthful, and abundant.” Simone is the director/editor of eight narrative shorts, including her award-winning “Elemental” series of retold fairy tales, and is currently in post-production on her first feature, “Sunflower Man”, a documentary about severe mental illness, transience, and flowers, as well as another narrative short, titled “Contact”. “Bathroom Break” is currently on the festival circuit, where it has placed in the Top Ten of over 70 submissions, receiving nominations for several awards including Best Film, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Production Design.
