Thirteen-year-old Ethan Bloom is an awkward teen wrestling with the loss of his mother while trying to make sense of his identity and faith. Living amidst the lush, tree-lined streets and eccentric homes of Coconut Grove, Ethan leads a double life—serving as an altar boy for Father Diaz at the local church one moment, and sharing Shabbat dinner with his family the next.

His father, Gary, a Miami real estate developer, grows uneasy about Ethan’s newfound devotion to Catholicism but struggles to stay open-minded at the urging of Ethan’s therapist, who believes faith might help the boy heal. In a bid to strike a balance, Gary strikes a deal: Ethan can continue spending time at church, but only if he also begins studying for his bar mitzvah.

Caught between two worlds, Ethan must navigate first love, grief, and the tug-of-war between his father’s expectations and his own search for meaning.
