Filmmaker Eliane Raheb, writer, director and editor of Miguel's War, and Miguel Jelelaty, the subject of Miguel's War, will be joining us for a LIVE discussion of the film with Raed Rafei, on the final day of AFF2022.

Miguel's War is a portrait of a gay man who confronts the ghosts of his past. After fleeing war and repression 37 years ago, Miguel returns to Lebanon where he traces hidden longings, unrequited love and tormenting feelings of guilt.


Lebanese director Eliane Raheb is the creator and director of several award-winning short films and documentaries. Her recent work includes the feature documentaries: Sleepless Nights (5th in Sight and Sound magazine’s listings of the best documentaries of 2013) and Those Who Remain, (screened in over 60 film festivals and winner of the prestigious Etoile de la Scam award). Eliane Raheb is the founder of ITAR Productions, a company that has produced award-winning documentaries broadcast on ARTE/ZDF, France 3, France 24, NHK, Al Jadeed and the Al Jazeera Documentary channel, and screened in international film festivals worldwide. Raheb is a founding member of the “Beirut DC” Association for Cinema and is the six-time artistic director of its film festival “Beirut Cinema Days”. Raheb has lectured on Arab cinema and screened her films at universities worldwide including: Harvard, Brown, Georgetown and George Mason. She was artist-in-residence at the prestigious DAAD Arts Program and La Cité des Arts-

Paris.


Raed Rafei is a San Francisco-based Lebanese filmmaker, scholar, and multimedia journalist. He has worked as a Middle East reporter, director, and producer for media outlets like The Los Angeles Times, Al-Jazeera, and CNN. Rafei's independent films were screened at international film festivals and received several awards. Rafei is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Film and Digital Media at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
