Director Statement

If you're looking for something different, this could be it. The Outsider's arc goes from strange fantasy to Nightbreed, all the while based in a handmade puppet world that itself ranges from fantastical to gritty. The story is told without dialogue through the use of score, sound, and subtle, endearing puppetry.

Though it's based on the bones of the H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name, I wrote my film The Outsider to be its own ultimately positive beast, a heartfelt exploration of the sympathetic monster. It's a puppet fantasy/horror film that's as much about the subtleties of solitude as it is about monsters, with themes of belonging, finding your people, and finding joy in embracing your true self.
