Join us for a special live Zoom conversation with filmmaker Bernardo Arsuaga, director of The Weekend Sailor. This extraordinary true story of an unlikely champion who changed the world of competitive sailing forever.

In 1973, the United Kingdom launched the first-ever around-the-world sailing race, the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race (now the Volvo Ocean Race), pitting elite, government-backed teams from around the globe against one another. Among seasoned naval crews and professional sailors stood one improbable competitor: Ramón Carlín, a Mexican businessman in his fifties with only two years of casual sailing experience and a crew made up largely of family and friends, including his wife and son.

Against all odds, Carlín’s underdog team didn’t just survive the brutal conditions of the race, they defeated every competing nation.

In this live discussion, Bernardo Arsuaga will share behind-the-scenes insights into the making of the film, the remarkable life of Ramón Carlín, and the deeply human story of family, ambition, and perseverance that powered one of the greatest upsets in sports history. Audiences will also have the opportunity to participate in a live Q&A.
