Juanita Anderson is a producer, documentary filmmaker and media educator who was born and raised in Detroit, MI. "The Black Italian Renaissance" is a mosaic of “cold-cases” on the life of black people during the Renaissance, all tied together by the spread of the geographic explorations that took place between the XV and the XVI century. We will meet many characters that, in very different ways, left their mark on history. Their faces peeks through the canvases of some of the greatest art works of their time. Their names are scattered among ancient ledgers in magnificent archives, lost among thousands of documents. What were their origins? Seamlessly travelling through the stories of nobles, enslaved people, ambassadors, and knights, the documentary will uncover a new and unexpected perspective on how the Renaissance concept of “race” was different from the one we know today.
