Alliance Française Dublin, the French Embassy in Ireland and University College Dublin are delighted to present you Muriel ou le temps d’un retour, as part of their film-cycle Disruptive Soundscapes that focuses on the sound in the French New Wave.
Directed by Alain Resnais and starring Delphine Seyrig, Muriel ou le temps d’un retour (1963) is a New Wave film set in Boulogne-sur-mer in the period following the war in Algeria. The film foregrounds themes of personal memory, imagination, and the passing of time. This month, musicologist Dr Laura Anderson (School of Music, UCD) will discuss music and sound design’s self-reflexive and affective role in this moving film, which employs a score by German composer Hans Werner Henze and vocals by soprano Rita Streich.
