To celebrate the 400th birthday of France's most famous playwright, the French Embassy and the Alliance Française network in Ireland in association with the AIPLF (Irish Association of French-Language Teachers), present this free online screening of the film Molière directed by Laurent Tirard (2007) as part of the 2022 Francophonie Film Festival, along with a national quiz for teachers of French in Ireland.

 

The AIPLF online quiz for teachers will take place on Wednesday 30th March and will cover the film as well as Molière's life and plays.

Synopsis

1644, Paris, and 22 year-old Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, also known as Molière, is not yet the writer that history recognizes as the father and true master of comic satire, author of “The Misanthrope” and “Tartuffe”, and a dramatist to rank alongside Shakespeare and Sophocles. Far from it. He is, in fact, a failed actor. Up to his eyes in debt and pursued by bailiffs, he persists in trying to stage tragedies in which he is an undeniably bad actor. And then one day, after having been imprisoned by his impatient creditors, he disappears...


This film is part of the 2022 Francophonie Film Festival and the Francophonie Festival in Ireland
