This illustrated talk on the art of Rembrandt will survey the life and works of the renowned Dutch artist of the 17th&nbsp;century, famed for his paintings, prints, and drawings produced during the height of Holland’s prosperity and cultural prestige. The online presentation led by CMA curator David Stark, will trace the rise of Rembrandt from his humble beginnings to a life of success and affluence in Amsterdam, followed by final years of hardship. The humanity that infuses his art, his masterful handling of light and shadow, and the evolution of his style will be viewed through his self-portraits, Biblical subjects, and masterpieces including the iconic&nbsp;Night Watch.&nbsp;This program is offered in conjunction with the feature-length documentary film&nbsp;My Rembrandt&nbsp;(2019), to be released on January 22 by Gateway Film Center. This Dutch film explores the world of European collectors of works by Rembrandt, including a present-day descendant of Jan Six, the subject of one of Rembrandt’s most famous portraits.
