Mr. Lamp is a cartoon animator recently invited into the executive branch of a major animation studio. Upon receiving the first pitch for the new narrative, Mr. Lamp is disturbed by the corrosive material the animated studio brand has developed. The executives discuss how they can make “a girl think she is independent”, change her perspective of “what a man ought to be”, and make her aspire for something “impossibly unattainable” all for one sinister purpose. When Mr. Lamp voices his concerns over the potentially negative effects on girl audiences, he is left with a disturbing offer in order he may continue making his untainted brand of storytelling.

Animator, Mr. Lamp is disturbed when he meets with the executives of a major animation studio to discuss their new corrosive narrative aimed toward girl audiences.

Kye Benjamin Stone discusses Night Patrol and Hear! Hear! with Amy Beste (Director of Public Programming for FVNMA) and Frédéric Moffet (Department Chair, FVNMA).

The piece was inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic seen in a more exaggerated dystopian world with a focus on the growing generational divides that it has created. It was inspired by the way people responded to COVID-19 and imagines the aftermath of an event that would represent a reckoning day for our socio-political culture. Due to COVID-19, the film was shot with a skeleton cast and crew of only three people taking turns in different roles when not on camera. The science fiction short becomes also a form of documentation as the desolate backdrop of an empty city is both a set and the reality of the pandemic.

Who Took My Drink?

In a dystopian society after a mass water contamination event, two people respond to their realities in different ways.

A lonesome entity in the world, engulfed by its own inescapable reality submits to its emotional current and destroys its singularity through a self diversionary process creating a being. Once awoken, they flutter in frolicking duet, culminating within the heights of their loving lamentation.
