Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, we strive for a safer and more inclusive cycling environment. We foster a connected and informed community by providing resources, organizing rides, and championing policies that support safe infrastructure. We inspire individuals of all ages and abilities to embrace cycling, which builds a healthier sustainable region.
On Black History Bike Ride’s 6th annual Juneteenth Ride, led by Talib Abdullahi, hundreds of cyclists explore Austin’s Black history. This journey through history travels from plantation sites to freedom communities, to forced segregation and into the present day, highlighting historic and modern leaders of the Black community like Jacob Fontaine and Barbara Jordan. Through interviews with community and thought-leaders like Peniel Joseph and Tara Dudley, animations, and archival materials, an inspirational, undertold story of Black excellence unfolds. Universal themes of community resilience, fighting injustice and family bonds shape Black History Bike Ride’s work of preservation and oral storytelling.
