"GOLDA" is the story of Golda Meir's term as prime minister of Israel – from her surprising rise to power and iconic international stature as “queen of the Jewish people”, to her tragic and lonely demise.
In Hebrew with English subtitles.
---
Part of the "Cultural Journey to Israel Preview," Heartland Film's ongoing program to highlight the culture and cinema of a host country, programmed by International Programmer Hannah Fisher.
"Shortly before her passing, Golda Meir was interviewed for Israeli television. After shooting ended, the cameras kept rolling, recording an intimate talk with the first and only woman to ever lead Israel, as Prime Minister. As she lit one cigarette after the other, Golda spoke freely, pleading the case for her term as Prime Minister –five turbulent years that included a devastating war with Egypt, and the death of her sister. These painful years secured her place in history, albeit at a high personal cost."
