When it comes right down to it, for my own personal tastes, monsters rule the roost. Monsters are the source of my love for the genre, they are the characters I most immediately empathize with, and they always will have a segment in my festival. Beyond that, though, monsters serve one of the greatest purposes in horror storytelling: they serve to explain the unknown, give face to our fear, and find some order in chaos. More than that, since monsters are not real (sorry), they are so well suited to metaphor and interpretation, a key characteristic that lends a layer of depth that one can take or leave. Here there be monsters!!!!

The story opens at a roller rink in Texas in the dead of night, following two young women, Mae and Lo. Lo is nervous as she's in the process of asking Mae something important. Looming around them in the roller rink, are a strange cast of characters. These are Lo’s compadres. At the center of this group is an older man named Bill, who seems to have power among them, and a young woman named Tess, who is eerily skating the rink alone. As Lo finally works herself up to ask Mae her question, an uninvited guest walks in: the owner of the rink who has called the cops on the apparent intruders. Lo's big night has just gone to shit and there's bloody hell to pay.

Director: Ronald Short is the writer/director/producer. After relocating to Austin almost a decade ago to pursue filmmaking, Short has been busy producing various projects, including the award winning features Billi & Theodore released by The Orchard and Good Feels On Wheels (in festivals now), the web series Weekend Plans, and various shorts and sketches that have screened around the US.
