In the shadow of the fifth year anniversary of the #MeToo movement, this intimate, personal film following a sexual assault survivor and her family explores and reflects the Herculean effort still required in America for a survivor of sexual violence and their loved ones to hold an attacker and the judicial system accountable. Loud Enough is empowering and inspiring to people everywhere, not just sexual assault survivors, to understand concretely how criminal justice systems can and must change for there to be accountability and justice. After surviving a lift-threatening sexual assault in her hometown of Lindsborg, Kansas, college freshman Madison Smith and her parents were stunned when the local county prosecutor declined to file charges against the rapist, despite a strong case and compelling physical evidence. Loud Enough follows the journey of an ordinary family doing the extraordinary: taking on a system biased against them, undergoing personal transformation, achieving victories both within and beyond the justice system, and embarking on a new mission as activists fighting for systemic change. Through their emotional wins and crushing defeats, the Smith family story demonstrates the power of love, tenacity, and community to survive the system, and explores concrete ways in which the criminal justice system in America can and must change.
