Director Statement

The Lethe is a narrative exploration of ambition, ethical boundaries, and the consequences of wielding unprecedented power. At its core, this film tells the story of three college students who, in their quest to innovate, create a promising memory-altering device for their final project. However, as they clash over the use and ownership of their ground-breaking invention, their once-brilliant endeavor descends into chaos, leading to tragic consequences.

The themes of The Lethe—playing God, greed, and control—resonate deeply with contemporary issues. In an age where technological advancements are rapidly evolving, we constantly face the ethical dilemma of how far is too far. The temptation to manipulate and control fundamental aspects of human experience is not just a speculative concern but a pressing reality. Our modern world is rife with examples of individuals and corporations pushing the boundaries of what is ethically acceptable, often with disastrous results.

By highlighting the students' journey, The Lethe serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of unchecked ambition and the seductive allure of power. It prompts us to reflect on our own society, where the line between innovation and ethical compromise can easily blur. The film underscores the importance of humility, responsibility, and the recognition that some boundaries are not meant to be crossed.

In directing The Lethe, my goal was to create a visceral, thought-provoking experience that not only entertains but also challenges viewers to consider the implications of our technological pursuits. I hope this film sparks conversations about the responsibilities that come with innovation and the potential costs of our relentless drive to play God.
