A Lovely Word is Liverpool’s most eclectic poetry night. The headliner for this special Homotopia Festival edition is Jay Hulme.



Streaming live from the Everyman Theatre's Bistro, A Lovely Word will feature two halves of open mic poets, and a headliner beginning the first half.



Jay Hulme is an award winning transgender performance poet, speaker and educator from Leicester. Alongside his writing and performing he teaches poetry, works to raise awareness of LGBT rights and inclusion, and performs sensitivity reads on manuscripts.

Jay writes books for readers of all ages, from age four all the way through to adulthood, and enjoys keeping people guessing as to what he’ll be writing next.


When he’s not working he enjoys and exploring old buildings, especially churches. As you read this he’s probably standing on top of a church tower, just taking in the view.


He has featured on and worked with, TED talk, Nationwide Building Society’s “Voices” advertising campaign, Amnesty International, The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education, Stop Funding Hate, and The Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Awards. More about his work here; https://jayhulme.com/
