NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE

Jasmin and Lee have been together for three years. When they decide to move back from Berlin to Lee’s late mother’s house in Anif in the countryside of Salzburg, they’re accompanied by their new friend Amira, a film student who wants to make a documentary on queer love as her final project before graduation.

Initial interviews of the two women together are sweet and funny. They tell stories of how they met, how life has been for them, Lee feeling her way around her nonbinary identity. But as time goes on and the interviews move from together to individual, cracks begin to show. Neither one is as happy as they first seemed, and Amira wants to get to the why.

A little bit reality-show-confessional and a little bit peeking-at-somebody’s-diary, this docufiction keeps you watching, even when uncomfortable truths are revealed. Writer and Director Elena Wolff, who also plays Lee, gives us an interesting and unique take on a genre-busting festival film.
