Fils d’immigrés iraniens né en Allemagne, Parvis mène sa vie à peu près comme il l’entend, out & proud, entre nuits dans les clubs et baises Grindr. Au centre d’hébergement où il doit faire des heures de travail communautaire, il rencontre Amon et Banafshe, frère et sœur, réfugiés en attente d’un statut officiel. Amant du garçon et ami de la fille, Parvis découvre un amour comme il n’en a jamais connu, une amitié tout aussi marquante et un début de conscience sociale, bref, un éveil aux autres. Malgré les obstacles, le monde appartient à ce trio improbable mais pour combien de temps? Il est évident que ce premier film de Faraz Shariat est d’inspiration autobiographique tant les personnages sont spécifiques, précis, sans caricature, incroyablement vivants. Étude de caractères, chronique sociale et film d’apprentissage, Futur Drei est remarquable de maîtrise cinématographique, porté par trois excellents jeunes acteurs. Un cinéaste à surveiller.
An award-winner in Germany, where the film takes place, director Faraz Shariat’s semi-autobiographical Futur Drei is a powerfully affecting examination of belonging, tackling heady subject matter with a droll fearlessness that mixes German with Farsi and tense drama with stylized sequences that glory in wish fulfillment. Parvis (Benjamin Radjaipour), a German-born suburbanite of Iranian descent, slides fluidly between foggy nightclubs, hookups, and backyard family cookouts. However, he is forced to reassess the privileged ease with which he moves through the world when sentenced to community service at a local refugee detention center. There, he is enamoured by a recently arrived Iranian, Amon (the dreamy Eidin Jalali), who is determined to stay under the radar and does not have the luxury of choosing his own destiny. Parvis soon learns that the way to Amon’s heart is through his sister and fellow detainee, Banafshe (Banafshe Hourmazdi), with whom he shares an inseparable bond. Together, the three indulge in hedonistic pleasures while they still can and stretch the limits of what they’ll do to stay together, looking defiantly towards a future defined by a more organic freedom for all.
