De Yaoundé à Douala, en passant par Abidjan et Dakar, ce documentaire d’investigation réalisé par deux cinéastes du Burkina Faso pose les bases d’un enjeu fondamental pour les sociétés africaines.
Homosexuality remains a sensitive topic on the African continent. Is it an abomination, a sin, a practice imported from the West or perfectly natural? From Yaoundé to Douala, via Abidjan and Dakar, this investigative documentary by two filmmakers from Burkina Faso lays the foundation of a fundamental challenge for African societies.

Lasseindra Ninja est une superstar trans de renommée internationale. Son t-shirt « Vogue is my fault » (je suis responsable du voguing) explique bien pourquoi. Ayant popularisé la culture new-yorkaise du voguing féminin à Paris, elle retourne dans sa Guyane française natale où il n’existe aucun club gai. Son but : changer les choses en offrant à ses étudiant·e·s la première classe de maître sur le voguing du chef-lieu guyanais, espérant ainsi encourager ses élèves à avoir l’énergie et la confiance nécessaires pour affirmer leur propre identité. Alors que les jeunes queer repoussent leurs limites et décrivent comment ils ont grandi en marge de la société, Lasseindra nous enseigne l'histoire et la technique du voguing. Nous la suivons alors qu’elle rend visite à son ancien professeur de ballet et lors de l’essayage d’une somptueuse robe de bal aux multiples boutons. Le point culminant est sans contredit l’exaltant bal de voguing qui ne manquera pas de vous faire verser quelques larmes en vous plongeant dans un univers rempli d’espoir aux horizons de plus en plus vastes.

A shirt she wears says it best: “Vogue is My Fault.” Having brought “vogue fem and the culture” from NYC to Paris, Lasseindra returns to her home country of French Guiana, where not even the capital has a gay club. She sets out to ignite change, teaching “the first voguing master class in Cayenne” and giving her students the energy and confidence to affirm their own identity. As they push past fear into fun, we are gifted easy-to-follow lessons in vogue history and technique, and hear from queer youth about their experiences growing up on the margins of French Guianese society. All the while following Lasseindra as she visits her former ballet instructor and gets fitted for a stunning (and many-buttoned) dress. The moment of culmination comes in an uplifting final vogue ball that will bring a happy tear to your eye and a “dip” to your repertoire, offering hope of broader horizons to come.
